After activating Sponsorships, we'll start trying our best to match you with brands who want to sponsor your podcast. After recording an ad for a sponsor and making sure you've added sponsored segments to your episodes, there are a few things to keep in mind to make sure your ads are playing properly.
Which of my recorded ads will play in a sponsored segment?
Let's say your podcast has the 2 sponsors below:
Sponsor #2 requires midroll, so you will only make money off of that record ad if you place a sponsored segment in the middle of your episodes. If you include only one sponsored segment in an episode, but it's not a midroll, Sponsor #1 would play automatically. If you add one sponsored segment as a preroll, and another as a midroll, Sponsor #1 will play in the preroll ad spot (because it does not require midroll) and Sponsor #2 will play in the midroll spot.
What to do if an ad isn't playing in your episode
- Confirm that you've recorded an ad for your sponsor
- Make sure you haven't placed a 'midroll required' ad at the beginning or end of your episode
- Have a look at your 'Money' page to see if a sponsorship campaign has ended. Some sponsorship campaigns have specific end-dates, and others may have set a maximum payout. These will appear as 'Ended' in your Money page.
When will I be matched with new sponsors?
New sponsors are first matched with shows who have a growing audience base and whose ads have performed well in the past -- we currently aren't able to guarantee you a sponsor at all times, and we recommend continuing to grow your show to qualify for new sponsors in the future.
Once your podcast has been matched with that new sponsor, we'll send you an email letting you know, where you can check out the script and some background on the brand.
Calculating Sponsorship earnings
Check out our Understanding CPM article to learn what you can expect to earn from a particular sponsor. Earnings on your ad are calculated by the number of impressions for that sponsored segment, which is different than a listen that you might see in your podcast analytics.
A 'play''means an episode in your podcast's catalog was heard (we classify this as 30 seconds of listening time), where as an 'impression' refers to an episode that was played and for which a recorded ad specifically got heard.
For example, an episode without an ad won't count as an impression. An ad at the end of the episode won't count as an ad impression if a listener only makes it halfway through your episode and doesn't hear an ad.
