Adding Spotify songs to your episodes using Anchor's Music tool

Anchor’s Music tool allows you to add songs from Spotify into your episodes. Episodes including songs will be available to all your listeners on Spotify.

Music + Talk is available in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico), Canada, Ireland, U.K., Australia, and New Zealand, Japan, India, Philippines, Indonesia, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and Colombia.

How it works

To add songs to an episode, go to the Music tool on mobile or desktop and search for any song in Spotify’s catalog. You’ll need to authenticate your Spotify account to access the catalog. Once done, you will have access to your playlists!

You’ll need to include at least one recording or uploaded segment to a Music + Talk episode before it can be published. Once the episode is published, it will be available for all of your listeners on Spotify! Free Spotify users will hear the 30 second preview of songs included in your episode, and Premium Spotify users will hear the full length track.

If you want to add songs to an episode that’s already been published to other platforms, you’ll first have to unpublish that episode, add the songs you want, and then republish. This will make your episode available only on Spotify.

Publishing your episode containing Spotify songs

Music + Talk episodes will need to go through review before being published on Spotify. You’ll be notified as soon as your episode is approved and published on Spotify through email and push notification. You can also always check on the status of your episode by visiting the episode detail page.

If your episode is rejected, review the following guidelines, make changes to your content and then resubmit your episode by going to the episode detail page and choosing “Submit this episode”.

What about the previous Songs tool?

Anchor’s previous Songs tool has been removed from mobile apps in favor of the Music tool on mobile and desktop. Please note that as a result, song segments that were included in any episodes on Anchor from the Songs tool have been removed.

With the Music tool, you can now include songs in your episodes to be heard by listeners outside of Anchor. You’ll just have to unpublish the episode if it’s already been published (or start a new one), add a track from the Music tool, and submit the episode to be published on Spotify.

Please note that in order to use the Music tool, your content must adhere to these guidelines. Any songs that you’d like to include in your episode should be added through the tool and not through your recorded or uploaded content.
