How to use Q&A

Q&A allows you to pose a question to your fans and add it to your episode. Your listeners drop their answers directly in the Spotify mobile app to join the conversation.

Listener responses are private by default, but you can publish your favorite ones for everyone to enjoy in the Spotify mobile app.

Creating a Q&A

On web:

  1. Go to the Interact tab.
  2. Click + Add Q&A next to the episode you'd like to add a Q&A to.
  3. Type your question, then hit Save.

On the mobile app:

  1. Go to Your Podcast and select the episode you’d like to add a Q&A to.
  2. Tap Interact then Ask a question.
  3. Type your question, then hit Save.

Your question should appear to listeners on your episode page on the Spotify mobile app within a few minutes.

Reading and publishing responses

Responses are private to you, but you can choose to publish your favorite ones for all your listeners to see.

Published responses appear on your episode page and in the Now Playing view on the Spotify mobile app. Your 5 most recently published responses are pinned on your episode page. If you publish more than 5 responses, the rest can be viewed by tapping View all.

On web:

  1. Go to the Interact tab.
  2. Click a Q&A.
  3. All responses appear under the Private tab, and responses you’ve published can be found under Published.
  4. Clicking the publish icon makes that response visible to all your listeners on Spotify.

On the mobile app:

  1. Go to Your Podcast and tap the episode you’ve added a Q&A to.
  2. Tap Interact then See replies.
  3. Tap the publish icon to make the response visible to all your listeners on Spotify.
  4. To block the user from sending more responses, tap the 3 dots then Block user.

To unpublish a response, select Hide response.

Editing or deleting a Q&A

You can ask one question per episode.

You can edit your Q&A if it hasn't received any responses:

  • On web, head to your Q&A in the Interact tab and click the pencil icon.
  • On the mobile app, head to your Q&A, tap the 3 dots, then Edit Q&A.

If you have had a response, you’ll need to delete the Q&A, then create a new one:

  • On web, head to your Q&A in the Interact tab and click the trash icon.
  • On the mobile app, head to your Q&A, tap the 3 dots, then Delete.

Default Q&A

To help jumpstart the conversation and make it easier for you to collect listener feedback, we’ve added a default question - "What did you think of this episode?"

This Q&A is turned on by default, so all future episodes you upload to Spotify have this question attached.

To customize your default question or turn off this setting on web:

  1. Go to the Interact tab.
  2. Click the gear icon above the Q&A column.
  3. Edit the question and click Save, or toggle off Automatically include a Q&A on all new episodes to turn it off.

To turn off this setting on the Spotify for Podcasters mobile app:

  1. Go to Your Podcast.
  2. Tap the 3 dots then Podcast settings.
  3. Toggle off Include Q&A automatically on all new episodes.

The new setting is applied to all future episodes you publish to Spotify.

Getting listeners to engage with your Q&A

Here are some tips to get more of your audience engaging with your Q&A:

  • Promote your Q&A and share your favorite replies across your social media channels.
  • Call out your Q&A in the intro or outro of your episode.
  • Publish your favorite responses so your listeners feel seen when they interact.
